Posted about 3 years ago Hi everyone, I just needed to share... after 27 years of raising 3 kids alone and taking my prereq's part-time, I have been accepted to the Nursing program. I was on a waiting list for two years but finally classes start in July. I'll be 50 when I graduate but I figure better late than never. I am sure I"ll be checking here a lot for advice. Wish me luck!! |

| Posted almost 3 years ago Good luck to you. I have started back to school to learn billing and coding, as my disability prevents me from working as a CNA, which I loved! Best wishes to you! |

| Posted almost 3 years ago I am sorry to hear that you can't do the CNA anymore. I was taking MA classes while waiting for the R.N. program and took the billing and coding classes. With your background it shouldn't be too hard...especially if you are good at looking things up in a dictionary type fashion. Good luck!

| Posted almost 3 years ago Hey, I am right there with you. I raised 8 kids. My baby just finished his first year at the Naval Academy and I start the nursing program in a few weeks as well. Learning is a life long event. I got a degree in Health Information Technology and have the RHIT with it but I never got a job in the field as you need 3 yrs. experience. So, now off to nursing school! Here come the baby boomers! |

| Posted almost 3 years ago GOOD LUCK to you on your journey. The support of family and friends will help you out a lot. I lost a couple friends because they didn't understand my study habits. I couldn't party like they did. It was tough, but I made it............we all make it. Hold your head up and be proud of what you will be accomplishing. Remember, if it was easy, everyone would be a nurse, dr, etc. |

| Posted almost 3 years ago Congrats!!! Its been 7 months since I graduated and I graduated 11 days after I turned 54. It is the greatest thing I have ever done (except for my children) I firmly believe that the older student does better because you have more critical thinking experience and are more determined and grounded. I love everyday of my work and no matter how bad of a day I always walk out with one thing that made my day worth it. Just hearing a family member or patient touch your hand and say thank you for being here is the greatest. GOOD LUCK AND COME TO ALL OR US AS OFTEN AS YOU NEED. Our service to others is the rent we pay while here on earth!! |

| Posted almost 3 years ago Congratulations Riverdance! I am in your same boat. I just finished the 1st semester of nursing school in the ADN program. Started at 48. I will be finished next December at age 50. It's not as bad as you think after the initial terror of experiencing something new (getting the shots, buying the uniform, 1st clinical, etc). Hang in there! I will be praying for you. Please keep us posted on your progress because you can do this. YOU WILL DO THIS!!! |

| Posted almost 3 years ago I'll be 41 when I graduate from nursing school. There is nothing wrong with changing your careers or advancing your careers later on. At the college I attend there is a club there called the "Dream It Do It" club that is specifically designed for non-tradition students. That is students of 26 years of age and old. They basically are there to give support to one another and even offer some scholarships that are available to just the DIDT club members. So take advantages of being an older student. One thing you can count on as older students you know we are dedicated to what we are doing and we have a better idea of what it is we want to occomplish as apposed to those fresh out of high school kids do. |

| Posted over 2 years ago Congratulations, Riverdance. Surprisingly, this has become more and more common. People are looking at a chance to advance their education later in life, for whatever factors played into their education decisions when they were younger. Even though this is more common, it doesn’t make the decision any less difficult. We have a program that is designed specifically for students like Riverdance, through out online Linfield Adult Degree Program. The program is online to provide the flexibility people need in their lives. We offer several online degrees and certificates, as well as an RN to BSN program.

| Posted over 2 years ago I am 43 years old and single and unemployed. I am finishing my pre-reqs right now and will apply to the nursing program. I have worked as a LPN for 13 years. I find a lot of older people in my classes at school. Know that you are not alone. Congrats on being accepted and good luck to you! |

| Posted about 2 years ago I will graduate with an ADN in four months at the age of 52! Its been the hardest things and most rewarding thing I have ever done. I could have went on doing nothing and still be 52, or be a nurse at 52. It doesnt matter. All that counts is that your doing what you want to do. I dont think I could have done it any younger. I had so many things on my plate. Now just happens to be the right time for both of us. Congratulations! |

| Posted about 2 years ago Hi. I am just stepping into this conversation, but I wanted to tell you that age is just a number. One of the members of my class had been a secretary all of her life, raised her family, was on Social Security and decided that she always wanted to be a nurse, and did it. I met her children at graduation, mine were in strollers, hers were older than I was. Tom, PhD, MPH, BS(N), RN-C, CHN |
