I am looking to begin nursing school in '08. It looks like I will get my LPN and then start my RN school after I have a job. Can anyone tell me the difference (other than pay) between the levels of nursing care as CNA/LPN/ASN and BSN?

A certified nurse assistant work under a register nurse usually nursing homes, hospital, elderly facility, alzeheimer's unit, they have limited skills but they can give medicine as a medication technician. Some make the same pay as LPN's
depending upon experience.

A License practical nurse works under the supervision of a registered nurse they work the floor as well, only they are licensed. They give medicine and patient care.

Associate of science nurse is a two year degree with same responsibility as a LPN, but you have two years into your RN degree

Bachelor of science nurse is a four year degree nurse that can run a facility or utilize teaching skills this is the highest of all everyone work under this individual licenses.

Two year RN and 4 year RN have the same responsibilities with patient care, and take the same exam for licensure. If you are interested in management, the BSN is probably required. Most Academics require Masters Degree for teaching.

Im a med tech i get a $1 more than CNA $11/HOUR. A regular CNA wipes BM's all day. And just because you are a Meciation Aide doesn't exclude you from that work i gotta do that work along with BMs.

Everyone also, you need to know that BSN is not the highest dgree. You can go all the way for DSSN or PhD. I hope I never work in a state that CNAs are giving meds. I know i am going to tick some folks off but CNAs do not have the training of rhe knowledge to give meds. I do not care how many classes they take. They will not have the science, math, and assessment skills that LPNs and RNs have that qualify them to give meds.

You are right Cdnurse i agree us CNA/ Med Techs should not give Meds & the pay isnt great for me either. There are Med Techs expanding all over trust me they will be in your state soon Cdnurse. It isnt right but you need us due to the Nursing shortage?

You are probably right about the shortage and CNAs will be used with the excuse of the shortage rather than addressing the problem head on the will attempt to fix with this very dangerous practice.

YES I AGREE. SO masters degree in Nursing isnt the highest degree the highest is PHD or DSSD. Whats the point in going that high your better off being a Doctor thats more sensible the pay is too!!!!!!!
