Hi... I've read a few of the posts on here and have found them really really helpful!!
I'm from England, and just moved over here in Dec 2006 to Ohio. I'm a Personal Trainer and group exercise instructor and have found over the past year or so that this is not enough for me and that a career in nursing is what I am looking for. I am paticularly interested in working with seniors as it is this population that I have most experience with.

So..... I have no american qualifications at all. We don't have High School graduations in England, but I did leave school and continue my education and got a Diploma in Business Studies and Finance.
I was just wondering how difficult it is going to be to get a nursing school to accept me on to a LPN program with no american educational background.

Also, what are the pre-requisites??? Should I look into doing those first before I even approach a nursing school??

I am 41 with two children at High School. Both myself and my american husband knew that when we moved here that we would be starting right at the bottom of our careers again and would have to work our way up. So at the moment the money I earn is essential to pay the bills.

Just wondering if anybody could give me some advice!!!!
Thanks.....

kazzy220, I would start with your local technical/vocational school. Their advisors will be able to find out what documentation from England you will need to show. A high school diploma or equivalent is required for LPN school. You continued your education so obviously you have the equivalent. Good Luck.

Yea. I dont' think there should be much of a problem if you start out at a vocational school or community college. You've had formaly education at the secondary level which is the equivilant of highschool/ graduations in America. My close friends mother is from England and she is a Nurse Practionar now. She started right at University without much trouble (the most part is getting your paperwork together) and she's got her masters in nursing now! So theres hope for you!! Good luck and stay driven!!
