twin city RN fighting for pt safety & to keep control of my nursing practice

Posted about 3 years ago Hi everyone..I am an RN In the Twin Cities of mn who is facing a possible strike of unknown proportions because we don't want to lose big time on our safe pt care practice & also a HUGE chunk of acquired benefits to contract & pension. The hospital association doesn't seem to get it that we need to have staffing ratios to enhance safe pt care & promote the excellent & professional care we now give. I wonder if they forgot we are Humans who take care of Humans who offen are completely dependent on us to survive. I am really fed up with supervisors who keep wanting to pile on patients to an already burdened unit "because we have empty beds", at the same time half of the staff haven't had a meal break let alone time to use bathroom or drink fluids. Leaving work with a stretched bladder, dehydrated & plain exhausted with the fear you forgot something essential or to chart something only to be blamed for poor patient satisfaction scores, or to be scolded for overtime you had no control over!
